Bah Humbug...and stick it where the sun don't shine

Can I just say....as this is my first year of not being one of the thousands of "insane" people who decide to make servicing holiday shoppers their career....I realize I put blinders on to those that seem to have walked in with one of those Christmas Stars shoved right up their butts...

Either that...or in years past they were never THIS bad...I won't step one cute little painted foot inside Nordstrom, for fear of my ex-collegues giving me looks of death for having escaped the hell that is Holiday shopping

So here's to you O keeper of the holiday peace...

You who take constant abuse for being too slow, not having it in stock or...just because you are breathing....

You who pastes on your happiest smile...while never letting on that you are really cussing them out in your mind...and give a truly believable "Have a nice Day" ...as they walk away with their purchase that you carefully wrapped with (somewhat) loving care.

You who work extra long shifts to accomodate the throngs of last minute shoppers...who even though the economy is down...still decide to do some shopping at 4 a.m...(must be from lack of sleep from worrying about mortgage payments and 401k's...but damn it all...they still need that talking Elmo)....

You who never get a moment to do your own holiday shopping...and have to squeeze it in during the nano seconds of a day off....(since you lost one day with having to work)...

You who will never see the inside of a plane...cause you aren't going anywhere for the Holidays...since you have to work the day before and of course the day after....Christmas day...is just...well a day off....

So the next time I walk in over the next week and a half...I will make sure I leave any snottiness I have at the door...make sure I wish you a Happy Holiday....and thank you for putting up with ME....

Oh...

And to all you obnoxious, loud mouth, whiny, angry, annoying, tight lipped, hostile customers....GET OVER IT....Tis' the Season....and Tylenol is on aisle 4

saw you at SITS today, and stopped by to say hi. Ive never worked in retail, but I was a server. after people bitch out the salespeople, they stop for a bite to eat and they bitch out the servers.

Thanks for the reminder to be nice to all the people out there ringing up our purchases and fixing our food...

I'll answer on my blog too, but I wanted to let you know you can get a candy thermometer from Walmart in the section with all the baking foods.

Well said! I have worked retail at Christmas only once and never want to do it again. Those of us who have experienced that nightmare will always remember to be considerate to salespeople!

Ugh! I know! People can be so rude...to people trying to HELP them. Doesn't make me miss the hotel...some people think that service people don't have lives or families and are just there to take their crap and smile about it. But the really nice people help make up for it. Good job on reminding us all to be considerate and thankful for people working during the holidays and all the time to make our lives a little easier. I love you sista!

LOL As an ex-retail manager myself, I had to laugh hard at this one!

My hubby worked management for retail for YEARS. He swears he will never go back.
I had to laugh this weekend while doing a little shopping. I overheard a lady pushing her granddaughter in the cart say "Let's try to move away from ALL these people!". I laughed and said "lady, this is the WRONG time for you to be doing shopping then!" LOL

Sometimes, you've just gotta vent.

But I don't know if mine are ever quite so passionate, or hilarious. Touche!

Yes, retail is a nightmare during the holidays, as is food service (I am at Starbucks this Christmas, and was in a cell phone kiosk in a big ol' mall last Christmas)... Good on you for bringing some attention to how people treat those who are slaving away to make sure that they have their triple venti mochas and their tickle me elmos when they need them...

Thanks for stopping by my blog :)

You couldn't be more right about this. Thanks for the reminder. I'm steering clear of the malls from now until after Christmas...don't want to be one of the unruly throngs. Or technically, the thought of taking my two 3 year old boys to the mall is a workout even if the mall is empty, let alone packed!

HAH! What a great post! I've worked both retail and foodservice and the holidays STINK for those folks! Merry Christmas!

Hell yes! I'm not in retail, but I have been and I hated people during those years. Everyone should wait tables, work a fast food job and do a stint in retail. It builds compassion. I make sure to never treat someone doing me a service with anything but respect and gratitude, because I've been treated like crap in their situation and that's just plain mean.

Thanks for that! I wish people were more aware of the "retailing life".
