The thing about being a Mommy of a Boy....

Having been raised with only a sister....I was not given much fair warning as to what to expect about raising a boy. Oh sure, I heard the usual; "Boys are easier than Girls", "Get used to ER visits" and the true yet underestimated "Your house will NEVER be clean again".

In the almost 2 years I've been a mom of a boy....I have learned that there are a lot of little pearls of wisdom I was not given. I tend to think that it's kind of like joining a fraternity.....where you have to go through the rites of passage....and once you experience all the lovely little "surprises" that come with boys....you are initiated....

Here's what I've learned so far about being a mom of a bubbly, bouncy, baby boy!

  • No matter how fast you are with a diaper....you are not too fast to miss an occasional dreanching.

  • The fascination with being naked starts at a very early age.....I'm afraid he might have a future as a streaker

  • No matter how I believe I have nerves of steel, he will continually test them by needing stitches and staples....

  • Boys give amazing hugs, and wonderful kisses....that truly make you forget the incident that had you fuming 2 minutes before....

  • Fearless....a word that was not in my vocabulary before he showed up!

I had a whole list of trials, tribulations and wonders to share today.....but they are well and truly locked somewhere in my fuzzy, early morning...can't have coffee mind....

So I ask.....add your own tidbit of wisdom about being a strong, capable, crazy as a march hair....mom of a boy! Lord knows I can use all the help I can get!

Ah boys. So true about being drenched and a streaker. Boys also really liked their penises. I am hoping that makes it easier to potty train.

Stopping by from SITS.

Hahaha. Stopping by from SITS.

I have two little boys. I recently guest posted on www.webelieveblogs.com and said that one of the first things I learned was to point the "pee pee" down when diapering, otherwise EVERYTHING gets wet. LOL

Happy Monday!

Interesting points that I will never know since I have three girls and that is enough for me! Stopping by from SITS, great blog!

We have yet to visit the ER *knock on wood* And although Tristan likes to be naked, he's not most of the time. He hasn't learned to take his diaper off yet.

Heaven help me. MacGyver and I both suspect that Pip is a boy. We'll find out in a couple months. But, oh my gosh, I don't know if I'm ready for a boy!!!

Nothing better than an impromptu hug from my son who is almost 9!

I also grew up with one sister, so having a little boy has been an education for me!

See, my son is so different. He's never done ANY of those things. Our oldest DAUGHTER on the other hand will be the end of me. She does all of those things and more.

I think what I've learned in the last six years and in having three children is that each child has their own unique personality. You can't predict what their personality will be, and you certainly can't control it, but you can learn to adapt to it, nurture it, and love it. It just takes time and patience.

awww, that's so cute! I don't have any kids yet, but I guess this is fair warning if I end up having a boy!

Love this post! Although I've never understood the whole girls being easier then boys thing, I have 4 boys and 1 girl and she is by far my easiest. My boys range from 13 months to 12 years, and I guess my best nugget of wisdom in raising boys is to keep your sense of humor. Most of the time its best to laugh at their misdoings then it is to get upset.
Visiting from SITS!

It doesn't get any easier as they get older. My two are 14 and 12. And puberty is alive in my house for sure.
Just enjoy them as best you can.

Stopping by from SITS..

I have two boys (and a girl). In my house, my boys are SO much easier. That being said, my almost year-old boy is the most fearless of the bunch. He's peed all over us and even the floor (we did not learn our lesson from #1!).

My favorite saying: Boys are noise with dirt on them.
