A Novice Sewer's view on Baby Gifts....

Ahhhhh My sewing Machine....my most cherished Christmas Present of late......The catalyst for my creative juices....I had large dreams that included me becoming the next Martha Stewart...able to make beautiful things....like bedspreads out of ruck sacks......but alas....my dreams are bigger than my ability.....as I did get a C- in production in College.....and my final project was nothing more than a glorified oven mitt......

My First project with my new toy.....a nice cover for the padding we placed in Pooh's new Wagon....to help his tushy stay nice and soft.....A nice Gingham pattern.....and due to the fact that it was a rectangle....I really don't think I could have screwed it up....and luckily I didn't....(okay confidence boost).....

enough confidence that I decided to tackle (dum dum dum) the idea of making my friends baby gifts....(okay maybe way too much confidence here).....but I can do it....how hard could it be...

Well....actually not too difficult with the help of Karina Fraley over at Expert Village. Her tutorial was so easy to follow...I was able to create a couple super cute blankets....well don't I just put the Shiz in the Shizzle.....I decided...I'm going to make a couple cute burp cloths to match....If the fabulous crafters over at Etsy can do it....darn well....so can I.....

above is just the first of the series....I highly recommend going to the site and seeing the whole tutorial if you are interested in creating your own....

I really feel like I've channeled some inner seamstress that I didn't truly know I had....sure my Grandmother and mom are both excellent behind the wheel of a sewing machine...but as with the Golf Gene...I was afraid it had skipped me....

I so am hoping that the recipents are pleased with the gifts...So what if my seams aren't perfectly straight....or side might be a tad shorter than the other....you could never get such individuality from a store bought blanket....nor was it made with such love and affection....but I'm sure being that they are babies....they should be mightily pleased.....(it's the parents I worry about)....

So I'll let you all be the first judges....well besides Juice....who bless his heart says everything I do is great...even when I almost sewed my finger to the fabric....

And being that I have to name everything....from my boobs to my shoes....these are no exception.....My first two are named Lila and Ceanna....after the babies who they will belong too.....

I'm thinking my new little baby in waiting will probably enter this world having more blankets than he/she will know what to do with.....I will call it the Bean Sprout Collection....and he/she will be the Imelda Marcos of the baby world.....
Sorry Beanie.....but mommy's on a roll.....(Pooh lucked out.....or did he? Dum Dum Dum)
