Finalist #10: Meet Aubrey @ The Fam 5

Aubrey....one of the first blogs I began reading when I started my journey in the Blogosphere...I love how relatable...fun....outgoing....and a good person she is....I love her stories....and how amazing her family is!

1. In your opinion, what makes a great, readable blog?
One that keeps it REAL. Besides sharing their funny, heartwarming or cute stories, I love bloggers who aren't afraid to share their sad and bad days too. We ALL have those! If I come across a blog that is always sunshine and roses, it's not for me.

2. What traits do you think our mommy blogger of the year should possess?
Love and respect for her family and HERSELF! She should also be carrying some of her baby weight 3-4-5 years later. Actually, I think that should be a requirement.

3. Why are mommy bloggers so imporant today?
I think it is a great outlet for all mommies out there. When you need support, they are there. When you need a dose of "act right", they are there. When you ask for advice, they are there. Plus, who knows the ups and downs mommies go through more than other mommies?!

4. If you were stuck on a desereted island...what 3 things would you take?
Lipgloss with SPF of course, iPod and large stunner sunglasses!

5. What is probably the best mom story you have?
We were at my in-laws and my daughter (2 at the time) and son (6 at the time) were outside playing. All of a sudden I heard my daughter whimpering. I walked out, saw her standing by her brother, saw him lying on the ground with his bone sticking out his arm, turned right back around and went into the house. Yep. I did. Or.When I shoved a tampon up my toddler's nose because it wouldn't stop bleeding. Or. Last Monday, when my toddler cracked his head open and I freaked out, causing my tween to freak out and then my toddler to freak out even more. Good times. Wait...you said BEST mom story. Ooops.

6. What do you plan on doing if you win our Mommy Blog of the Year Contest? (Going to Disneyland?)
Squeal with delight, jump up and down, do the happy dance and possibly pass out...not from Patron this time.

7. What do you want the public/readers to know about you?
I am raising 3 wonderful kiddos, ages 3, 12 and 16, with my wonderful hubby of almost 17 years. There is always a story to tell with a toddler, tween and teen! I may not be the the greatest, most creative or witty writer but what comes out in my posts is from my heart. Take me as I am...
If you'd like to help Aubrey Squeal with delight....head right on over to the right ...over there....yep...you got it...and VOTE for her!!!
Now if you are a mom....you I'm sure at one time or another had to try and feed one handed....yeah not so much....well Barbara...the creative mastermind behind Baby Dipper understood that issue very well, being a mom of two sets of twins....She has created an amazing feeding system that allows you to feed one handed.....easily....it's design even allows the food to sit in one spot....no more chasing it around the bowl....holy cow!!! I was so excited when she agreed to send our winner a baby dipper.....whether our winner has a baby or not...it is a fabulous edition to our swag bag!!!

Finalist #9: Meet Mama Kat @ Mama Kat's Losin It

Mama Kat....is ONE amazing blogging Mommy. She is intelligent, witty, photogenic....an excellent writer....Geez with 988 followers....she must be doing something right...!!!...A great nominee...and finalist for our Mommy Blogger of the Year!!!.....If you LOVE mama Kat...VOTE VOTE VOTE for her!!!...only a few days left!

1. In your opinion, what makes a great, readable blog?

Humor, pictures, and posts that are to the point.

2. What traits do you think our mommy blogger of the year should possess?

The mommy blogger of the year should post everyday, be able to pass a drug test, eat sushi and have a pink polk a dotted blog. Just sayin.

3. Why are mommy bloggers so imporant today?

I think we're important to each other because we offer a place to connect when the kids are napping. I don't know how our parents managed.

4. If you were stuck on a desereted island...what 3 things would you take?

A boat. A phone. And stilettos. ps is desereted a word?? ;)

5. What is probably the best mom story you have?
Oh we've got lots of those. I would say the times I'm most proud of myself is when I know my kids are sick before they know they're sick. I'll take their temps and then be like "mmhmm I KNEW IT!!!" Nevermind the fact that for every one time I'm right, I'm wrong 40 others. The temperature will read normal and then I'll be like, "well then I don't know what your problem is". I like to focus on the right times. :)

6. What do you plan on doing if you win our Mommy Blog of the Year Contest? (Going to Disneyland?)

I plan on my husband celebrating my glory by treating me to a movie and sushi and showering me with Andes mints. Can someone send him the memo??

7. What do you want the public/readers to know about you?

That I'm only offensive if you take me seriously. I'm sarcastic and I don't do drugs.

I can imagine picking 3 fave posts was extremely difficult...but here are Mama Kat's three fave's....

Dear Ellen (Letter #7) - Man if Ellen didn't snag you after this letter....she's a crazy lady!!!

Magic Whistle - If only I could find my magic cure....

A Scary Place To Be - Powerful...

Dizzee Lizzee.....Now this fabulous designer can make things out of paper that I could only dream of doing....and maybe not even then. I find so many things over at her Etsy shop that I would love to have...between the fabulous decorated chocolate bars....a perfect gift for that coworker you just have no idea what to get....to ahem...Magical Reindeer Food....Fabulous!!!!

Dizzee Lizzee is awesome in giving our winner a handcrafted mat for an 5x7 picture....maybe a picture of her with all her swag-tasticness!!!

Finalist #8: Meet Allie @ No Time For FlashCards

Allie is the mom...I'd like to be....with regards to finding a never ending supply of fun, creative and educational things to do with my son....some days I just don't have it in me...and end up giving him a q-tip and an empty butter container...and just go....no idea....just do whatever....I love too how her little guy is so engaged....I love him....!!!

1. In your opinion, what makes a great, readable blog?

For me a great blog is one that I can see the passion come through . It can be about their children, fashion or food, it doesn't matter what matters is that they care and are writing for the right reasons.

2. What traits do you think our mommy blogger of the year should possess?

She should be about 5'4 , with very dark brown hair... no I'm kidding. I think they should posses the ability to add value to their readers lives through their blog in whatever way they can. If I learned anything at BlogHer this year is was that words are powerful and if you use that power for good you are doing something meaningful and worthwhile no matter how "big" or "popular" your blog is.

3. Why are mommy bloggers so imporant today?

The world isn't the one it was when we were little, neighbors don't live on the same street for 25 years, the definition of community has changed. To me mommy bloggers help create an online community, one where I can be anywhere and yet still active in that community.

4. If you were stuck on a desereted island...what 3 things would you take?

My laptop, a wireless card and a never ending cup of coffee.

5. What is probably the best mom story you have?

Goodness I don't know. My son nursed until very recently ( he's almost 3) and we were at Wal-mart and I was buying strapless bar for a formal dress I'd only wear once. Well I strip down and he announces in that voice that only toddlers posses and can be heard far and wide. " Wow nice boobies, Yay boobies, I love your boobies!" I could hear the giggles outside and almost peed myself ( another fun side effect of motherhood) laughing. What can you do?

6. What do you plan on doing if you win our Mommy Blog of the Year Contest? (Going to Disneyland?)

Buy some new shoes! Always a great way to celebrate.

7. What do you want the public/readers to know about you?

I love comments, I love emails and if they are on twitter say hi ! I can never have too many friends and I want to get to know them as well.

Here are Allie's Three Fave Posts....So if you LOVE her...her little guy....and her creativity....VOTE For HER....5 days left...and the race is tight!!!

Finalist #7: Meet The Mrs @ Trying Our Best

I am very excited to introduce our 6th finalist....a uber funny....amazingly witty....super preggo....and one heck of a mama!!!...I think she's written about most things I've thought about: ie: beefs with public restrooms....and has on many occasions turned a frustrating afternoon with a toddler around...by giving me a moment to almost pee my pants laughing.

For that...I was super pleased that she made it to the next round!!!! And here's to hoping she's added a new edition to her family by the time the winner is announced!!!

1. In your opinion, what makes a great, readable blog?

I like a blog with approachability, a sense of humor and honesty, one that shows a whole picture of the blogger, not just the picture perfect snapshots. Real is perfect I think.

2. What traits do you think our mommy blogger of the year should possess?

I think quite simply, mommy blogger of the year should be able to roll with the punches of motherhood. To take the ups with the downs, the vomit and poop with the giggles and smiles, and to be able to turn them into great blog fodder! No size requirement, no need for make up or spanx, it shouldn't matter if she has 15 kids or just one, she should just be able to enjoy the ride of mommydom with the sense of humor it requires. And lack of shame.

3. Why are mommy bloggers so important today?

Motherhood can be tough and it can be lonely, and there is a heck of a learning curve, but putting my thoughts and stories out there helped me to see that holy poop! I'm not the only one who maybe feeling like this. Or the only one who has forgotten to feed my children lunch. Multiple times. There is something very comforting in knowing you're in the trenches with a lot of other incredible moms.

4. If you were stuck on a deserted island...what 3 things would you take?

Is there going to be wi-fi on said island? I'd take a giant pallet of coca cola,
as much toilet paper as I can, and books... lots of books.

5. What is probably the best mom story you have?

I was at the park for a playdate, another mom came up and when she saw the mom I was with she said quite surprised "Oh your in the mom's club?". I had never heard of the mom's club, it turns out the mom I was with is the president of said mom's club. After explaining that I didn't know anything about the mom's club the one mom kept going on and on repeating "Oh so you're NOT in the mom's club." It was just one big old awkward mom moment, but honestly, it pretty much sums up what motherhood can be like sometimes! Awkward but great blog fodder.

6. What do you plan on doing if you win our Mommy Blog of the Year Contest? (Going to Disneyland?)

I'm hoping that I will be so excited that I will spontaneously give birth. But I'd also like to think that the boys in my house will raise me up on their shoulders and worship me as they should. Perhaps they will fan me with palms as they feed me bon bons. Or I could just go about my day wiping butts and fixing meals with the knowledge that my mad mommy blogging skills are appreciated by others. The latter is the more likely scenario.

7. What do you want the public/readers to know about you?

I am what I am. I'm a mom, yup a mom, I wipe butts, cook meals (don't worry I wash my hands after wiping the butts), kiss boo boos, read stories, clean up vomit, and I love it. Ok so maybe there are some moments that I doubt my sanity but all in all, I am right where I want to be, at home with my little ones being my kids mom.

Get To Know The Mrs. Better....Here are her 3 Fave Posts...

Finalist #6: Meet Veggie Mom @ Eat Your Veggies

Aunt Julie and Veggie Mom....Veggie Mom...and Aunt Julie...One Cool Chick....A Fabulous Wife...an Amazing Mama...and can I just say How cool I think Uncle Lynn is?...just for the record and all!

1. In your opinion, what makes a great, readable blog?

I love reading humorous, relevant blogs; the ones that make me "think" are great. I also love parenting tips and recipes!

2. What traits do you think our Mommy Blogger of the Year should possess?

The Mommy Blogger of the Year, first and foremost, has to be able to take herself seriously, while at the same time realizing that "it is what it is," and that life goes on. In other words, "silly" has to be part of the mix, big-time. This realistic approach to "Mommyhood" will keep her on an even keel, while at the same time keeping her readers a little off-balance.

3. Why are Mommy Bloggers so important today?

Oh, gosh, so many answers come to mind. Mommy Bloggers remind us that we're not alone; that it's OK to mess up sometimes, that kids are resilient, and that being a Mom is the best job in the world!

4. If you were stuck on a deserted island...what 3 things would you take with you?

My family, my dogs, and rum, to go with the tropical fruit! I'm assuming that this would be a tropical island, right?

5. What is probably the best Mom Story you have?

I've always loved the beach. When I was pregnant with Soccer Boy (my 4th), I took an innertube into the ocean, planning to spend some time floating around in the gentle surf, watching the dolphins. I guess I must have fallen asleep; when I awoke from my slumbers, I noticed I was waaaaaaaaaayyyy too far beyond the shore. The currents were carrying me out to sea! I panicked briefly, but was relieved when a hot young guy in a kayak came by and asked if I needed help. He towed me to shore. Before he rescued me, I thought I was headed for Bermuda!

6. What do you plan on doing if you win our Mommy Blog of the Year Contest? (Going to Disneyland?)I'm going to that deserted island you mentioned, with my family, my dogs and a bottle of rum, if that's OK!

7. What do you want the public/readers to know about you?

That I've got 4 boys and a wonderful husband. You know, Uncle Lynn, the POPrs King! I love my family (natch), I'm a gardener (except when I'm killing the petunias and the topsy-turvy tomatoes) and I'm also a quilter. I'm a beachcomber, too, and I'm always on the lookout for bargains! I'm also really involved in the family business. Uncle Lynn, aka my hubby, Mr. Pops and the POPrs King, makes a product that encourages kids (and everyone else) to eat their veggies! Hence, the name of my blog, and my prime purpose in the blogosphere...to share a little bit about me and my familywhile getting the word out about the POPrs King and his adventures!

Let's get to know Aunt Julie/Veggie Mom a little Better...shall we?

Topsy Turvy Tomato Tragedy (say that 5 times fast) - I myself am fighting the brown thumb!

She Has The Time - One day I'll have the time to ponder....hopefully?

Your Gonna Miss This - If I was going to wish for any age...I think it would be the age of 8....everything is great when your 8

Finalist(s) #5: Meet The Fab Fatties

I received quite a few nods for these two ladies.....and am glad they did get nominated....These sassy chica's...help, support and talk about issues that so many other mama's are going through....as well as adding in fabulous family stories that are so relatable....I love their honesty....approach.....and demeanor......

1. In your opinion, what makes a great, readable blog?

Keeping it real, being honest, and being able to laugh at yourself and life.

2. What traits do you think our mommy blogger of the year should possess?

Fab Fattie charm lol, whit, sense of humor, well rounded and cover a variety of topics, yet represent the real life of an everyday mom.

3. Why are mommy bloggers so imporant today?

It is reassuring to see that mommies, no matter where they are, they are dealing with the same things. Mommy bloggers offer support, friendship, and encouragement.

4. If you were stuck on a desereted island...what 3 things would you take?

Shannon:
Chocolate, Twilight and a cell phone.

Angie:
Lap top, Chris Daughtry and nail polish.

5. What is probably the best mom story you have?

Shannon:This story still makes me laugh I just have to choose this one:
I have to share this story. Last night Carson had a friends birthday party and Lawrence took care of everything and got him to the party. When I got home I asked Lawrence how it went. He started telling me about how proud of Carson he was. When they were getting the present together for his friend, Carson said he wanted to make a card all by himself so Lawrence let him do it. When Carson got done Lawrence read the card. He could not believe how nice it was. When I got home that is the first thing Lawrence told me about and he said some of the things that were on it and how proud he was of Carson for being so sweet. The only thing was that he wished he would have made a copy of it to show me. We sat and talked about how great our kid is and it was a shame I did not get to see the card. While we were talking I noticed a pile of papers on the table. In the pile was a birthday card Carson got from Grandma and Grandpa in July. I opened it and started reading it. I asked Lawrence if this is what Carson’s super sweet card to his friend said. He looked at it and we both started laughing. When we finally were able to talk again after laughing so much the first thing I said was “you should know better than that his la st name is Lavery!” When Carson came in I said “I heard you made a nice card for your friend.” He then replied “yeah I copied it out of my card because I could never spell all of that right by myself!”We are still laughing about this!Lesson to us…1st-never think a Lavery can come up with all of that nice stuff by himself.2nd even if he did he would not share it with anyone.3rd if the spelling is correct he cheated!

Angie: There is always the typical... kid pulling my shirt so far down in the front Playboy looks modest, toddler calling the wrong man daddy really loud in the store, screaming tempertantrums in the store, and so many more, but the story that stick out to me the most and is one that really made me feel like a mommy was after I had my second child I was watching a show on TV with my oldest, then 3 1/2 years old. He laughed and said "look at that big fat ghost." It made me wonder what he thought about me and my size. I said "Is mommy fat like that ghost?" He responded "no". I then asked "is mommy skinny?" I was hoping for a yes and he responded "no". Okay... I then asked "Well, what is mommy?" I will never forget his response and it truly changed the way I think about myself. He said "you're a mommy" like I was silly to even ask. I relized he doesn't care if my body isn't perfect... he loves me for who I am=2 0and because I love him. Children are amazing and really love people for what's inside their hearts and not what the world sees.

6. What do you plan on doing if you win our Mommy Blog of the Year Contest? (Going to Disneyland?)

Shannon:
Going through the gift bag and taking first pick before Angie gets chance to see it.

Angie:
Get a shirt printed that says Mommy Blogger of the Year before Shannon gets the idea! :)

Finalist #4: Meet Alicia @ It Ain't Easy Being Cheesy

So I think this Pic sums up our 4th finalist fairly well...don't you?.....I'm sure if you've stopped by this hip chick...you already know about her awesome-ness.....Hey...any super caring sister who would help her brother find a lady through her blog....is good people to me!!!

Just Check out her answers below...if you aren't quite sure about her being a fierce mama!!!

1. In your opinion, what makes a great, readable blog?

What really manages to captivate me into reading a blog and coming back for more is when I find myself connecting with the writer. Whether it's because they're a mother and I've been through her same situation or even something as small as loving the same TV show. When I find that I connection I find myself hooked. The icing on the cake is if they make me laugh, then I know they're making it on my blog roll!

2. What traits do you think our mommy blogger of the year should possess?

Ummm..black hair, hazel eyes...Oh, you meant character traits! Right. I think that they should be honest and stay true to themselves. I think that they should also be considerate of their readers. While it is their blog, it is the readers who lend a hand to their success, and I feel we should keep them in mind.

3. Why are mommy bloggers so important today?

Personally I feel that they're important because they provide a form of community. A place where people can go to relax, laugh, learn, bond, socialize and express. The success of mommy bloggers has given bloggers everywhere opportunities that they wouldn't have had access to before. They serve as a great mode of communication and bring new products, events, and education straight into our homes.

4. If you were stuck on a deserted island...what 3 things would you take?

This is tough...I'm assuming my kids would be safe at home with Jordan...here goes!!- Gluten-free vegan food since I would probably be allergic to everything on the island.
- My fully charged blackberry so I could blog to my hearts content until my battery died.- A roll of toilet paper because wiping with leaves just isn't for me!

5. What is probably the best mom story you have?

I would have to say the day that I packed my car with my baby and what ever belongings I could manage to fit and left my old life behind me. I left the old life of heartache for the new life of uncertainties and promise and never looked back. To this day, it has been hands down, the best choice I have ever made for my son, and for my children that followed.

6. What do you plan on doing if you win our Mommy Blog of the Year Contest? (Going to Disneyland?)

I'd dust off my tiara and place it firmly on my well coiffed hair. Then I'd write a fabulous post all about how I was the winner winner chicken dinner and thank all the fabulous folks that voted for me. After that I'd call the mayor of our sweet little city and let them know that it was ok with me if they wanted to dedicate September 1st to me (which of course they would). The mayor would even throw in a parade with ticker tape and present me with a key to the city. I'd throw a little party on my blog with a fantastic giveaway for all my awesome readers and I'd end the night with my amazing family and closest friends eating otter pops and downing red bull....and maybe some chips and salsa.

7. What do you want the public/readers to know about you?

I want them to know that I'm so grateful for their support. I'm so humbled that they continue to read my horror stories about explosive diapers, IBS, and my desire to have chocolate covered midol! I hope they know that despite the raunchy humor and the crazy antics I'm also a well grounded person! I'm not completely insane. I hold strong values and beliefs and hope that they can take that away, as well as a laugh or two. I also want them to know that I can make an amazing impersonation of a chicken. It's pretty much spot on. I'm just sayin'.

To Quote Beyonce: I'm a Survivor: An amazing Story about a Mom's sacrifice...and meeting your prince/man meat

Finalist # 3 : Meet the Redhead Riter

If you haven't met the Redhead Riter already.....I'm not quite sure which part of the blogosphere you've been hanging out in....I don't think there are too many blogs I've stopped by...where I haven't seen this lovely lady's avatar smiling two comments ahead of me....She is truly fabulous...and I think she sums it up well in her about me:

I have gained an appreciation for Living Every Moment...from hectic demands of deadlines at work, experiences encountered from a child growing up, to the peaceful moments alone. I'm a happy mom and wife that loves to spend time with my family.

I think that deserves putting her in our top spots...what do you think?

Here are her answers to my E! newsworthy questions:

1. In your opinion, what makes a great, readable blog?

A great, readable blog has a distinct style that flows well from one thought to another. Not only does it include subjects that I am very familiar, but also includes topics that I know nothing about and yet the blogger still holds my attention. I also enjoy at least one relatable picture with the postings. It offers more than just a history, but provides a perspective or insight that I can take away for my betterment.

2. What traits do you think our mommy blogger of the year should possess?

I think that the Mommy Blogger of The Year should post daily, honest and relatable posts which show her personality without always having to say "This is me!" She should be able to draw you into her story and then give you a twist with something unexpected to make it a memorable reading. The Mommy Blogger of The Year should include information about people and events other than those of her family and celebrate the accomplishments of the people in the world in which we all live.

3. Why are mommy bloggers so important today?

I believe mommy bloggers are setting the "new tone" of writing and reporting history, the future and advertising. It has been proven that when enough mommy bloggers band together, "things change." It has once again become the era of "I am woman, hear me roar!" Women CAN make a difference!

4. If you were stuck on a deserted island...what 3 things would you take?

I assume since you said "things" you didn't mean "people" so…
Pots/pans
Soap
Towels/Blankets
If "things" can include people, then my list would be like this…
Family
Pots/pans
Soap
I want us to eat and be clean! I mean really, I don't want to stink!

5. What is probably the best mom story you have?

Oh my! I have sixteen years of mommy stories and each one is a priceless moment. I believe Alyssa's birth and the moments following were almost surreal. The recollection of the events leading to those moments still bring me to tears of joy and thankfulness. If you want a story when she was a little older, it would have to be about the day I found her name on the bathroom wall. Do you want me to tell you the latter story? If not, just delete it...When Alyssa was four years old, we lived in a one-story, brick home in Texas . I was a very happy and fulfilled stay-at-home-mom. Since I was only able to have one child, I did not want to miss a second of her sweet little life. I also couldn't bear to be away from her, so I never left her with a babysitter and took her everywhere with me. We were stuck together all the time and I was her favorite play partner because I didn't have a problem sharing and would play the same thing for hours on end. This drove most people crazy, but I didn't care and she didn't either.

On one particularly hot summer day, she was wearing a dark blue sleeveless dress with her white blonde hair in a funny ponytail sticking off the top her head. I had finished cleaning the kitchen and knew that she was getting the toys ready for us to make a Barbie city in the living room, so I needed to have a little visit to the "ladies' room." As I sat down, I noticed that a GIANT letter "A" was peeking out from the wall behind the door. I closed the door and there on the wall, written in giant blue twelve inch high letters was the name "ALYSSA." Never before had she ever written on anything other than paper, so I couldn't believe my eyes!

After a moment of shock, I called for her...

"Alyssa. Can you come to the bathroom for a minute?"

"Coming Mommy."

I let her into the bathroom and closed the door so that the wall was fully exposed. Looking into her smiling face, I asked, "Did you do this?" fully expecting her to lie.

With a sparkle in her big brown eyes, she proudly said, "Yes Mommy!"

I was surprised by her happiness. "Well...Alyssa," I said, "Why did you write your name on the wall?"

"I wanted to see what my name looked like reallllllly big," she said as she spread both her arms out wide to show me just how big she wanted her name to be written.

"Do you like your name?"

"Yes!"

I wanted to laugh. "Well, Mommy is going to buy you some reallllly big paper, okay?"

"Okay Mommy."

"So don't write on the wall any more, okay?"

"Okay, Mommy. Are you going to write your name on the wall too before you get the paper?"

"No, I will wait to write my name really big on the paper."

Her huge uneven letters remained behind the bathroom door for quite a while, announcing to anyone in the bathroom that Alyssa liked her name and she liked it when it was written really big...especially if it was written with a blue crayon on the bathroom wall.

6. What do you plan on doing if you win our Mommy Blog of the Year Contest? (Going to Disneyland ?)

I will enlarge the award, print it on the finest paper available, buy an expensive frame, and hang it in a prominent place in our home so that not only our visitors will see it, but so that Alyssa will see it daily and be reminded that my awesome mommy-ness is greater than my nerdiness.

7. What do you want the public/readers to know about you?

No matter how much success I may have in my future or have had in my past, my greatest accomplishment is being Alyssa's mother. She is everything I could ever want in a daughter and her kind, gentle, compassionate spirit has helped to make me a better person. Any sacrifices I have made on her behalf have been worth it and I would do it all over again just to ensure her happiness and success. I hope that by sharing all the things I have learned, some through terrible heartaches, that I will not only help my daughter but also other people. I am a tenderhearted woman with a huge capacity to love and hope to share my life in an effort to make at least one person's burden lighter and give them hope or strength to carry on another day.

Finalist #2 - Meet Lolli @ Better In Bulk

Lolli....Lolli....Lolli.....I think what it Is that so many love about her, and her writing is her relatability....and the fact that her place over at Better In Bulk....is has a little bit of everything for everyone....she is more of a multi-tasker than I could ever even attempt to be....from Photography tips....to Giveaways....and fabulous stories and glimpses into her amazing family....

she is a well deserving finalist......

Here is how she answered my crazy...not always coherant questions:

1. In your opinion, what makes a great, readable blog?

I think the personal element and interaction makes a huge difference. I like to read blogs where I feel like I can really get to know the blog writer.

2. What traits do you think our mommy blogger of the year should possess?

I think that the Mommy Blogger of the Year should be fun, personable, post regularly, and have a good, solid reader base.

3. Why are mommy bloggers so imporant today?

Blogging creates community. It helps us all feel connected and reminds us that we are not alone. There are others just like us all over the place!

4. If you were stuck on a desereted island...what 3 things would you take?

I would take my camera, my computer, and a soft pillow.

5. What is probably the best mom story you have?

Seriously? I have no idea. Every day is filled with interesting mommy moments, since it is certainly never boring around my house.

6. What do you plan on doing if you win our Mommy Blog of the Year Contest?

I will bask in the glory for a few days and take my girlfriends out for ice cream. Or maybe I'll make them BUY me ice cream. I'd deserve it, right?!

7. What do you want the public/readers to know about you?

I am a mother of 5 kids, ranging from 4 to 12. I am a teacher by degree, mommy by blood sweat and tears, and photographer by hobby. I love to blog but I probably (*cough*) spend too much time doing it. I might not be the wittiest blogger, the best photographer, or the most perfect mom, but I try to keep it real.

Finalist #1 - Meet Carolyn @ Team Boo

I have to admit....the first time I ever came across the Blog entitled Team Boo...was seeing her nomination....and I am so sad it took me so long to be introduced....I LOVE Carolyn...and the way she looks at her life....honesty, humour...and poo.....having lunch with her would be a stitch!!

Thank you Brooke over at Brooke in Wonderland for showing us the fabulousness that is Team Boo!!!

A very deserving Mommy Nominee to Be sure

Here are the probing questions....all inquiring minds would like to know

1. In your opinion, what makes a great, readable blog?

(I am drawn to simple and aesthetically pleasing blogs who's posts aren't too long,..and my favorites usually involve some amount of humor. I don't usually like when people take themselves too seriously, or talk about cupcakes too much.)

2. What traits do you think our mommy blogger of the year should possess?

(First off, her body should be scarred and flabby in one way or another. Because anyone who didn't get stretch marks and/or a flabby butt still needs time to marinate as a mother ;) Also I think she should be inspiring in some way...gets people's brains rolling...makes people with and without children know life can still be fulfilling and awesome after kids.)

3. Why are mommy bloggers so imporant today?

(because we have thankless jobs, and there are thousands of us who want to tell our stories...albeit unflattering and sometimes disgusting, we need each other as sounding boards for ways to cope with the tricks that the universe plays on us daily)

4. If you were stuck on a desereted island...what 3 things would you take?

(besides people...my sunscreen, my buffalo blanket, and as many fruit roll ups as i could stuff in my pockets)

5. What is probably the best/worst mom story you have?

(the one while about 8 months pregnant with my first child: One night I went to sit on the edge of my bed to talk to my husband. Underestimating my size and lack of coordination, I rolled off and fell on the ground causing me to fart and then of pee my pants for the seventh time that day. I felt like such an big oaf that i then started to cry uncontrollably...on the floor...in what was surely my last pair of dry pants. Pregnancy really knows how to keep vanity in check ;)

6. What do you plan on doing if you win our Mommy Blog of the Year Contest? (Going to Disneyland?)

(if i were to win this award i would roll around on my bed naked in all the free stuff and then re name my blog "all who don't appreciate my motherly goodness can suck it"...Really though I'd probably just feel more guilty every time i fed my kids cereal for dinner ;)

7. What do you want the public/readers to know about you?

(That I don't ever want to pretend i am something i am not, I am a total sucker for my kids, and that in terms of "motherly battle wound credibility"...I am all set.)

See What Team Boo is All About HERE

Butta Face -So Funny...and so true....We should all be careful what we wish for

Selling My Soul - I think she's summed up pretty well all the reasons I blog

Oh Irony -"if only they could see me now"

And Don't forget....voting begins today check out the poll on the right side of the blog!!!

Well of Creations: Is generously donating one of her Amazing Totes....a Great Piece for our winner to use while out and about...being a mommy of the year!!

The real life part of homecomings....

Yeah. sigh....smile.....

Juice is finally home....safe and sound....another 77 day deployment come and gone....no broken bones....a few stitches....1 mini mommy meltdown....and now our family is back together.

It is always such an almost euphoric experience the day my handsome....holy hotness of a husband steps off the plane....from driving 80 in a 65 to make sure I get there extra early....to waiting in the squadron's readiness room to get the word the plane is on approach...

There's the nervous chatter of all the spouses on the bus while driving out to the flight line....then the standing on the tarmac waiting to see them come down the stairs....I would say it almost makes the 77 days apart completely worth it.....almost

The last few days have been amazing as usual....the blissful period where it doesn't matter if I still don't make the bed....and I don't get a little miffed if he doesn't put the toilet seat down...

It was a conversation we had though the other night...where Juice said he feels he's missing out of so much of Pooh's life....It hurt...and made me feel almost a little guilty....here I am....able to be a stay at home mom...and spend all my time enjoying my son....at the expense of my husband...

I think he feels more regretful this time....because of the amount of changes Pooh has gone through since the spring. He went from his first few steps the week before Juice left....to running....saying more gibberish...though it's still gibberish...and just being more interactive...

and I do feel so bad.....really bad....because I'm not more upset about his time away....

Today Pooh had an emotional moment, when I left to run some errands...alone for the first time since May...when I returned, I could tell it was another blow to an already sort of fragile daddy ego....

I feel so grateful that my strong, capable, my personal hero of a husband wants to be an ever present part of the family.....but also am so proud of the sacrifices he makes everyday for us his family and his country....

it will all get better, I know.....

This is just the not so picture perfect part of homecomings....it's the real life part.....

Homecomings are Like....

The first time you spend the night at your new significant others house.....

You feel excited, anxious, nervous....and Confident...all at the same time....

There is your checklist....

breath mints....Check

painted toenails....Check

75% of body hair removed.....Check, Check....and check

cute outfit....that the rest of the world can see....Check

cute outfit...that only your significant other can see.....double check

It will be 23 hours and counting.....and this 77 day stint at single parenthood will officially be at an end....

I tell ya....I have to give mad props to those who do this thing....by themselves....every day....for LONG periods of time....you all have either A) lots of alchohol B) Lots of Therapy....or you are waiting in line to be sainted....

I think it might actually be a piece of cake.....except for the small insignificant fact that my son grows and changes each time we go through one of these.....Last winter....he was learning to crawl and sleep through the night....

This time...He learned to walk....become a one man demolition team....and mastered the art of toddler temper tantrum....

Just when I think I may have mastered this single parent thing.....Pooh throws a curve ball and whacks me right in the tush with it....

But 23 hours from now....I will again be part of a dual parent family....and holy crap...I will actually be able to go grocery shopping alone!!!!....now there is a concept!!!

It's so not about regaining that husband/wife relationship....wink wink....all I really care about is maneuvering my shopping cart through a store without little arms grabbing everything within reach!!!...

The excitement is building.....the butterflies are forming in the stomach....

22 hours and 50 minutes to go!!....now where's that gum....

The I'm Not a Supermom....Agreement....

Since I am finally coming to terms with the fact that....even though I have aspirations...I am in NO way a Supermom....no sexy tights in my closet....(sorry Juice)

I have decided to make an agreement for myself.....to help me during those times....when I fall off the wagon....or whatever supermom's ride on....and need a reality mom....attitude adjustment!!!

1) I AGREE....that it is OK for my son to only say mama, dada, baba, nana and Die (Bye) at 16 months....

2) I AGREE....that I don't have to be in my pre-baby jeans....even though it irks me when I hear other moms at the park gush over their super sexy just had a baby body.....

3) I AGREE....that the house in no way needs to resemble one that lives in the Better Homes and Garden Magazine....These people have either A) no kids......or B) the kids are stuffed in the attic.

4) I AGREE...that dinner does not have to resemble the gourmet meal that The Barefoot Contessa made last night on Food Network.....Husband's not a big fan of Brie anyway...

5) I AGREE...that My Family and Friends will still be there tomorrow...if I decide to check out today....everyone needs a break....

6) I AGREE....that accepting help from others....in no way knocks my good mommy score down any notches.....really.....(Repeat) REALLY....very good!!!

7) I AGREE....(related to numero 1) ...that Pooh does NOT need to be the poster child for my Child can Read videos.....or have finished the Harry Potter Books by the age of 3....

8) I AGREE....to stop trying to fit into tights that don't fit......and understand I'm doing a Darn fine job in my sweats and jeans....

*** I feel Better Already....Don't you?

Supermom doesn't live here....

Even though I swore for the last almost 17 months...that she did...and that at random times I would rip open a super sassy top I was wearing to expose my Super Mom uniform underneath...Sexy Blue Tights and all....

Only to realize belatedly....that all I was exposing...was my ultra worn in bra....and one worn out me....

Yesterday....Was my hit the wall....mini epiphany day....where I realized I just can't do it anymore...

I can't try to be Supermom...I wasn't born on her planet....

I think it started with having a super hectic busy week since returning from our long vacation...The week of my yearly cancer scans are always a stressful time.....add in hosting a baby shower....creating amazingly cute works of baby art......and dealing with a child who is learning that getting his point across by tantrums...is the way to go!! Or so he thinks....

and logically I can see how I could have my own day of a toddler like tantrum

Then I think...maybe it's been bubbling for longer.....With trying to be the perfect someone...for everyone....daughter, daughter in law, guest.....driving companion....mom....then trying to gently, yet firmly tell the different families about how we do our schedule...without stepping on toes...

I became an exhausted mess after everyone left....

and finally....I realized...I haven't even taken my own advice....(well technically that isn't a surprise....)

I can't begin to count how many times I've had friends and neighbors say the blessed words all moms love to hear...."If you ever need me to watch him...let me know...so you can HAVE A BREAK."....What a break....and I'm not taking advantage of these people....to the point they won't return my phone calls?...

No....because I feel I can do it all...on my own....no help....

I'm delusional...because Supermom doesn't live here....

and I'm starting to realize that I have my kryptonite....

and it's totally Okay!!!

(Do they have therapy groups for people like me?)
